Sam Lane

Physiotherapist, Sports Injury & Rehabilitation Specialist
Biography

Meet Sam

I am a physiotherapist with a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy, Sport and Exercise Medicine, and a background in Sport and Exercise Science. My particular interests are sports injury rehabilitation, conservative management of osteoarthritis, and promoting the benefits of strength training for people of all ages.

Growing up, I played almost every sport I could including football, cricket, athletics, swimming, martial arts and tennis before eventually settling on rugby. The fitness training and strength work I did for rugby sparked a fascination with researching and experimenting with new techniques and exercises. Unfortunately, my enthusiasm also meant I spent a lot of time in the physio room, which eventually led me to explore physiotherapy as a career.
I studied Sport and Exercise Science at the University of South Wales, which gave me a solid foundation in exercise physiology, anatomy, sports psychology, biomechanics and strength and conditioning. After graduating, I travelled and worked abroad, spending a year playing rugby in New Zealand and two years snowboarding in Canada. Towards the end of my time in Canada, a conversation with a UK physiotherapist made me realise how perfectly the profession matched my skills and interests.
Four years later, I graduated from the University of Bradford with a Master’s in Physiotherapy, Sport and Exercise Medicine, alongside a Level 4 Certificate in Strength and Conditioning and a Diploma in Dry Needling. My experience ranges from working with professional rugby players at Bradford Bulls to supporting elderly patients on acute medical and neurological wards in the NHS.

Joining Courtyard Clinic has allowed me to focus on musculoskeletal physiotherapy and my specialist interests. Whether it is guiding an athlete through a return to sport programme, helping someone manage osteoarthritis without surgery, or showing a client the benefits of strength training, my aim is to make rehabilitation practical, effective and tailored to the individual.
